Who We Are

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Alabama is a membership program that is member planned and member managed. The University of Alabama is proud to offer this program at Tuscaloosa, Gadsden, and Birmingham.

Member participation and volunteerism are the fuels for the success of OLLI. This exciting academic cooperative provides mature adults with opportunities for intellectual stimulation, cultural development, and social interaction. OLLI's education programs are centered on courses developed by and often taught by its members - who volunteer their time and talents to share their knowledge and interests with other members. You'll find no homework, no exams, no required college degrees, no age threshold (and no academic credits) - just learning for the fun of it.

> GO to olli.ua.edu and click on the 3 horizontal bars in the small white box
on the right side. At the dropdown menu click on register for classes.
> Log in with your email address and choose a password. On top right of the red
bar that appears, there are 3 horizontal bars in the small white box. Click on
that. A drop down menu appears. Click on training, available classes and zoom
training. If you have problems, call registration services, 205-348-3000,
leave a message and someone will call you back.

Who Can Join?

OLLI is open to mature individuals who have an interest in continuing to learn. The Greater Birmingham Chapter serves members from through out the Birmingham Area.

How Does It Work?

OLLI is a member-led educational and social group which depends on volunteers to ensure success.

What Is Required?

There are no requirements to join OLLI other than paying membership and term dues. Prior college experience is not required. Annual membership dues permit you to attend the Bonus sessions, take advantage of the social activities and field trips. The term dues permit you to attend courses during that term.

Where Is OLLI (at UA) Located?

OLLI at UA has locations in Tuscaloosa, Gadsden, Greensboro, North Pickens, South Pickens, and Birmingham. Convenient parking is available at each location.

Who Manages OLLI?

The OLLI membership manages the curriculum and other aspects of the program via an elected Board of Directors and Committee Chairpersons with support and guidance from the staff of UA's College of Continuing Studies.

What Is The OLLI Curriculum?

The OLLI curriculum is developed by the OLLI Curriculum Committee members who design their own learning experiences. The committee works diligently to offer courses that inspire the membership to take a new look at themselves, the future, their generation, and opportunities in the world today.

Some topics are covered in one session while others may be studied in a series of related sessions.
